Artificial Grass Installation in Greater Manchester
Fake grass and artificial lawns installed on a proper foundation. Dug out, compacted and fixed taut, so the grass looks right and drains right for years.
Artificial Grass Installation
Artificial grass lives or dies on what’s underneath it. Rolled straight over soil or old turf, fake grass goes lumpy, spongy and waterlogged within a year or two. We do it the long way: dig out the old lawn, build up a compacted sub-base of hardcore and grit sand, lay a weed membrane, then stretch the grass taut and fix it properly at the edges. That’s the difference between a lawn that stays flat and one you end up ripping out.
We supply and fit good quality grasses in a range of pile heights, from a shorter 30mm up to a longer, softer 40mm, so you can pick something that suits the garden and the budget, from natural-looking lawns for family gardens to harder-wearing grass for dogs, kids’ play areas and putting greens. Joints are seamed and hidden, edges are trimmed neat against paving and borders, and the pile is brushed up before we leave. We can lay it over a solid patio, concrete or old decking too, fixed straight down onto the hard surface with no dig-out needed. For a lot of gardens round here, it’s a practical fix as much as a cosmetic one. Shaded, north-facing lawns that never thicken up, gardens that turn to mud every winter, dogs wearing tracks across the grass. A fake lawn fitted on a proper base deals with all of it. No mowing, no muddy paws through the kitchen, and it looks the same in January as it does in June.

Artificial Grass FAQs
You’ll see it quoted online as a price per square metre, but the real figure depends on the size of the area, the grass you choose and how much groundwork is needed. The grass itself varies a fair bit in price between budget and premium ranges. We quote per job after a free site visit, so you get an exact written price before anything starts.
Yes, it’s one of the most common reasons people have fake grass fitted. Dog urine drains through the backing and sub-base, and any mess lifts off easily and can be rinsed with water. We can recommend harder-wearing grasses for gardens with big or energetic dogs.
You can, but you shouldn’t, and we won’t. Grass laid over turf goes lumpy and boggy as the ground underneath settles and rots. We always excavate and build a compacted sub-base first. It costs more than a quick overlay, but it’s the only way the lawn stays flat and drains properly.
Not when it’s installed properly. The backing is perforated so rain drains straight through, and the compacted stone sub-base underneath carries the water away. If an existing garden has a drainage problem, we’ll flag it at the site visit and sort it as part of the groundwork.
Very little. Brush the pile up now and then to keep it standing, clear leaves off in autumn, and give it an occasional rinse if you’ve got pets. There’s no mowing, feeding, weeding or reseeding, which is the main reason most people swap a real lawn for astro turf.
A good grass on a properly built base will give you a solid 10 to 15 years, often longer. The base is what decides it. Grass rolled over soft ground goes flat and lumpy inside a couple of years, which is why most of our time goes on the groundwork underneath.
