Patios in Hindley

Patios built from the ground up in porcelain, Indian stone or traditional flagging, set on a full mortar bed over a compacted sub-base, with falls that carry rainwater away from your house and finish below the damp course. Around four miles from our Leigh base.

Patios for Hindley Gardens

Round the back of a Hindley terrace the yard is where the whole family ends up on a warm evening, so a patio has to be flat, dry underfoot and set where the sun lands. We work out where the light sits in your yard before we lay a single flag, so the seating ends up in the warm corner rather than the shaded one.

We cover Hindley and the surrounding area: Hindley Green, Castle Hill, Amberswood, Lowe Mill, Ladies Lane and beyond (WN2).

What’s Included

For the surface it’s porcelain, Indian stone or traditional flagging, and each has its honest trade-off. Porcelain is the flattest and shrugs off stains but costs the most, Indian stone gives a natural riven finish at a friendlier price, and flagging keeps the look right on the older streets. Every flag is bedded on full mortar with the falls running away from the house below the damp course, and the joints packed tight so moss and weeds can’t creep in, which matters on the damp north side of town near Borsdane Wood.

  • Porcelain, Indian stone and traditional flagging
  • Full dig-out and compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base
  • Every flag on a full mortar bed, not five dabs
  • Falls set so water runs away from the house
  • Finished below the damp proof course as standard
  • Joints filled with mortar or resin against weeds
  • Sunken or rocking flags lifted and relaid

How It Works

01
Free site visit We come out, measure up, check levels and where the sun falls, look at drainage and access, and go through stone samples with you.
02

03
The build Dig-out, sub-base compacted in layers, then the laying: flags set to falls on full mortar beds, cut in around edges and features, and jointed once the beds have firmed up.

★★★★★
"Tim recently replaced our lawn which was getting waterlogged, inserted a drain system and made a step down from our patio to the garden. He was very professional and did a very good job, completing extra work beyond what we originally asked for. We were impressed with his work ethic and he kept us informed of what he was doing throughout. We would definitely recommend Barrow Landscaping."

Patios in Hindley, FAQs

Porcelain, if the budget allows, because it doesn’t soak up water and won’t green over the way some natural stone can in shade. Indian stone and flagging still work well there, they just want a good sealer and the joints kept full. We’ll talk you through it on site.

Usually it was laid flat, or falling back towards the house, often on spot dabs that have since sunk. We rebuild with proper falls away from the wall on a full mortar bed, so water runs off and the finished level stays below your damp course.

Porcelain is dense, colour-consistent and barely stains, so a porcelain patio stays looking new with almost no upkeep, but it costs more and needs a skilled lay. Indian stone is natural, so every flag varies, and it weathers into the garden nicely at a lower price, though it benefits from an occasional clean and seal. Neither is wrong; it comes down to the look you want and the budget you’re working to.

A typical patio runs three to five days: dig-out and sub-base first, then the laying, then jointing once the beds have firmed up. Wet weather can stretch things slightly because mortar and jointing compounds need time to cure, and we’d rather wait a day than joint onto a bed that isn’t ready.

Not at all. We often build a separate seating area sited where the sun actually lands in the evening, which isn’t always right outside the back door. We set the falls, access and any steps to suit wherever it sits, so you get a patio you’ll use rather than one that’s simply in the obvious spot.
