Block Paving in Culcheth

Block paving for driveways, paths, steps and patios, laid to pattern in your choice of colour and finish on a compacted sub-base, with kiln-dried sand locked into every joint and sunken paving lifted and relaid. Around five miles from our Leigh base.

Block Paving for Culcheth Gardens

In Culcheth we use block paving for far more than the drive out front. Garden paths winding through the bigger plots, step flights, border edging and paved circle features all use the same blocks, so a path from a Twiss Green side gate down to a seating area can be built to match everything around it. On the larger village gardens that ability to run one material throughout really earns its keep.

We cover Culcheth and the surrounding area: Twiss Green, Wigshaw, Fowley Common, Newchurch, Glazebury and beyond (WA3).

What’s Included

The finish is a matter of pattern and colour. Herringbone is the strongest bond and the one for anything bearing weight, basketweave and stretcher suit paths and sitting areas, and a contrasting border, charcoal against buff, or a double-block edge gives the whole thing a proper frame. We lay samples dry on the ground first, because a blend looks very different against a red-brick house than it does stacked on a pallet.

★★★★★
"Tim did a fantastic job, everything done exactly as requested and the quality of work was amazing. Once the job was finished everything was cleaned up and left exactly as it was found. I would definitely recommend Barrow Landscaping if you’re looking to get any work done. Thanks Tim."

Block Paving in Culcheth, FAQs

Yes, on Culcheth’s larger plots paths, steps and paved circles are some of our most popular block paving work. Each one sits on a compacted MOT Type 1 base with a concrete edge restraint, so a long garden path stays true and level instead of drifting apart after a couple of winters.

Yes, and it is usually a relay rather than a replacement. Where blocks have crept outward the edge restraint has normally gone, so we reset the edging on fresh concrete, relay the loosened blocks over a corrected base and brush in new kiln-dried sand. The original blocks go straight back down.

Yes, and it suits patios well because the small units follow curves and let us work borders, banding and even a circle feature into the design. We lay it to a fall the same way we would flags, so water runs off rather than pooling, and the colour blend can be picked to sit with the house and the planting.

Usually, yes. If blocks have dropped or spread it means the base or the edge restraint has failed, so we lift the affected area, put the base and edges right and relay it properly. Where the joints have simply lost their sand and weeds have taken hold, brushing in fresh kiln-dried sand tightens them back up, though if the blocks have actually moved the base is the real fix.
