Block Paving in Walkden

Block paving for driveways, paths, steps and patios, laid to pattern in your choice of colour and finish on a compacted sub-base, with kiln-dried sand locked into every joint and sunken paving lifted and relaid. Around six miles from our Leigh base.

Block Paving for Walkden Gardens

Block paving is the most versatile hard surface we lay, and in Walkden it goes down as much for paths, steps and edging as it does for drives. Around Linnyshaw and the older streets off Bolton Road we use it to run a neat path from gate to door, edge a lawn or border, and build shallow steps where a garden changes level. Because the blocks are small they curve and cut around beds and corners far more tidily than a big flag ever could.

We cover Walkden and the surrounding area: the town centre, Hill Top, Parr Fold, Linnyshaw, Walkden North and beyond (M28).

What’s Included

The craft is in the pattern and the blend. For a path we tend to lay basketweave or a straight stretcher bond and frame it with a contrasting double-block border, keeping herringbone for anything that takes a wheel. We’ll dry-lay a few colour mixes, buff, brindle and silver-grey, on the ground before you decide, and every job sits on a compacted MOT Type 1 base with concrete-set edges so the run holds its line on Walkden’s moving clay.

★★★★★
"Tim did a fantastic job, everything done exactly as requested and the quality of work was amazing. Once the job was finished everything was cleaned up and left exactly as it was found. I would definitely recommend Barrow Landscaping if you’re looking to get any work done. Thanks Tim."

Block Paving in Walkden, FAQs

Usually yes. On clay the common cause is an edge course that was never pinned in concrete, so the whole run creeps outward and sinks. We lift it, reset a proper concrete edge restraint and the base beneath, then relay the blocks and brush in fresh kiln-dried sand.

For a path that only takes feet, basketweave or a stretcher bond looks tidy and lays economically. We save herringbone for drives and anywhere cars turn, because that’s the bond that locks together under weight. A contrasting border pulls either pattern together.

Yes, and it suits patios well because the small units follow curves and let us work borders, banding and even a circle feature into the design. We lay it to a fall the same way we would flags, so water runs off rather than pooling, and the colour blend can be picked to sit with the house and the planting.

Usually, yes. If blocks have dropped or spread it means the base or the edge restraint has failed, so we lift the affected area, put the base and edges right and relay it properly. Where the joints have simply lost their sand and weeds have taken hold, brushing in fresh kiln-dried sand tightens them back up, though if the blocks have actually moved the base is the real fix.
